BA in Philosophy

Overview

The Philosophy Major initiates you into the practices of philosophy (careful reading, critical discussion, and writing your own argument) under the inspiration of the great works in the history of philosophy.

Double Majors are exempt from the Foreign Language and Humanities Division requirements. Students double majoring within the Humanities are required to meet the Foreign Language and Humanities requirement only once.

Honors students may complete the Philosophy Major by taking just 8 courses: PH250 Ethics, PH305 Philosophy of Science & Nature, PH315 Philosophy of Knowing and Believing (Epistemology), PH316 Philosophy of Reality (Metaphysics), PH485W Senior Thesis and Seminar, one PH elective, and one History upper-level elective.

Typical Fall courses: PH202, PH316, PH330, PH345, PH485W, HO311, PH485W

Typical Spring courses: PH305, PH314, PH315, PH335, PH350, PH410, HO306, HO330

Double majors are not required to take the 6 credit hours in one language or the three upper-level EN, HI, and TH courses.
