EC424 Govt Economics and Policy Analysis

Government seek to improve societ with expenditures financed through taxation. This course in classic public finance introduces students to traditional cost-benefit analysis used to design government budgets for maximizing social welfare. Political-economic themes indluce regulation of public utilities, the environment, and workplace safety; anti-poverty programs, education finance, public-choice voting theory, Social Security nad health care entitlements, optimum taxation, tax incidence, government debt finance, inter-governmental grants, transportation infrastructure, and local development incentives. Pre-requisite: EC 201 or EC 202
