AR111 Intro to Digital Photography

The purpose of this course is to investigate the question: "What makes a picture good?" That investigation will take place through taking pictures, but also through studying and discussing other photographers’ work, and learning about basic elements of photography including composition, light, and color. The course will focus on various types of photography such as landscape, still-life, portrait, and abstract. The course will also cover basic elements of post-processing techniques using free (or very inexpensive) software. Students may use any type of digital camera, including their phone. Access to a laptop is helpful. There is some writing/analysis in the class of photographs and a final portfolio.
