MA235 History of Mathematics

The course is an overview of the development of mathematical thought. The content includes a description of some critical historical mathematical junctures, such as the creation of classical Greek mathematics and the development of calculus. Also included are biographical descriptions of notable mathematicians such as Fermat, Descartes, Newton, Leibniz, Euler, and Gauss, and the impact of their discoveries. Development of specific ideas, such as the Pythagorean Theorem, the real number theory, and calculus will also be covered. Offered on demand.
