TH366 Islamic Beliefs and History

This course explores religious, historical, and intellectual character of Islam from the time of the prophet Muhammad up through the conquest of Byzantium. This course will begin with an examination of the core beliefs of Islam and proceed through the philosophical and historical context in which the faith is developed in the Ottoman period. Special attention will be given to the study of primary sources in translation.
