Bachelor’s Degree Requirements
Undergraduate Degree Requirements
To qualify for the Bachelor of Arts or the Bachelor of Science Degree, a student must meet the following requirements:
- Complete the Core Curriculum (49-50 credits).
- Earn a minimum 2.00 average in upper-level (300- and 400-level) courses in their major unless otherwise stipulated by the Department listing in the Catalogue.
- Earn a minimum of 120 credits, including those in the core curriculum and from all courses required by the department in which a student majors.
- Take at least the last 30 credits and complete a predominance of the major courses at Belmont Abbey College.
- Achieve a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.00, which is equivalent to a “C.”
- Major Capstone: All seniors must complete a capstone for the major as determined by the major department.
- Make a formal application to graduate to the Registrar’s Office. Students planning to graduate in August must apply by May 1. December candidates must apply by August 1, and those planning to graduate in May should apply no later than October 1 of the previous year.
Second Bachelor’s Degrees
Students who have earned a bachelor’s degree from Belmont Abbey College or from another accredited institution may qualify for a second bachelor’s degree under the following conditions:
- The student applies for post-baccalaureate admission
- All requirements for the new major must be fulfilled; and
- A minimum of thirty (30) additional semester hours of upper-level credits must be taken at Belmont Abbey College and passed with an average GPA of 2.0.
The same degree (i.e., in the same major) may not be awarded twice. Some majors will require substantially more than two semesters for completion.
