HC204 Concepts of Pharmacology
This course focuses on the basic concepts of pharmacology including pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics while examining different pharmacotherapeutic agents used in the treatment of complex disease processes and the promotion, maintenance and restoration of wellness across
body systems. Additionally, pharmacogenomics will be addressed, introducing the concept on how genes affect the selection and response to medications. An emphasis will be placed on dosage calculation and safe medication administration.
There is a lab component to the course designed to reinforce theoretical concepts and provide
practical experience with medication administration. Students will be assigned into a lab group to
participate in lab sessions offered periodically throughout the course. The lab group assignment
and dates of lab sessions will be distributed prior to the first day of the class.
