TM301 More Seminar Medieval Intellect Trad

A study of Medieval and Renaissance texts that helped to shape the intellectual, cultural, and political world that Thomas More inhabited. Texts studied include writings from St. Augustine, Boethius, Aquinas, Dante, and Thomas More himself. The course also includes activities drawn from a “Reacting to the Past” game on the Reformation Parliament of Henry VIII's reign, which serves to illustrate the interaction between a humanist, liberal arts education and the practice of politics and statecraft in the early modern world. Students outside the Thomas More program may register with permission of the instructor. This course also counts as PO402: Medieval Political Thought.
