PO415 Democracy in America
An examination of the relationship in America between modern liberal democracy and the cultural phenomena of freedom and equality. While the course is centered on a careful reading of de Tocqueville's great work Democracy in America, the course may also draw from the speeches and writings of political leaders involved in founding, preserving, and changing American politics and society.
