PO425 Special Topics: Politics of the Family
A study of the origin and development of political thought concerning the family, its role in society and its relationship with the state. The course analyzes contemporary debates concerning the internal authority and cohesion of the family (childcare, divorce, parental consent/notification issues, the definition of marriage) in the light of divergent theoretical conceptions of the individual, the family, and the community.
