383383 Field Experiences in Human Services

Prerequisites: C- or higher in HS110 HS210, HS220, and HS320;

Corequisite: HS300. This course will provide students with a supervised, field-based experience, designed to build on the skills and concepts learned in the coursework. Students will work in a human service agency under the supervision of agency staff and College faculty. Work will be guided and evaluated by both the BAC faculty supervisor and the field placement supervisor. This is a 120-hour on-site course (approximately 8 hours weekly) over a 16-week semester. While in the placement, students participate in a weekly seminar with Belmont Abbey faculty. A grade of B or higher must be obtained in this course.  Students taking this course may be required to take and pass a background check by the agency. Students are responsible for paying the background check fees. Background check procedures vary by agency, so students will wait until they have been accepted at a placement to complete the background check process. Students concerned about passing a background check should contact their instructor to discuss options.
