Minor in Social & Human Services

Overview

Social & Human Services is a broad, interdisciplinary field aimed at helping individuals, groups, families, communities, and agencies to implement change in the quality of life.  The minor in Human & Human Services provides students interested in a career in the helping professions with an academic base of knowledge, theories, and skills needed to ethically assist diverse individuals, families, and communities to thrive through the prevention and remediation of problems in a manner consistent with a Christian worldview.  It emphasizes both theoretical and experiential learning aimed at optimizing human interactions and finding meaningful solutions to social and interpersonal problems.  Such knowledge and skills will assist students seeking careers in diverse professional settings such as social services, nonprofit agencies, addictions clinics, court services, correctional settings, youth facilities, community mental health centers, child and family services, ministry, educational settings, and health care.

Curriculum Requirements

Total Required Credits: 15 credits

To earn a minor in Social & Human Services, students must complete fifteen (15) Social & Human Service (HS) credits at the 200-level or above.  Students may choose any Social & Human Service (HS) 200-level course or above for a total of 15 credit hours.  Students must earn an average GPA of 2.0 or higher and a "C-" or higher in all Social & Human Services courses.
