AR301 Art Arch and Christian Trad of the Byzantine Empire

With a focus on the city of Constantinople, parts of Turkey, Greece, Egypt, and Russia, this course surveys the material refinement of Byzantine Christian culture -- its icons, ivories, manuscripts, religious and secular architecture -- within their historical and religious contexts, from the 4th century to the 15th century in the Byzantine Empire.
