ED471 Student Teaching Seminar

This course focuses on supporting the candidate during his or her student teaching experience with discussions, workshops, and presentations. Candidates will compile a student teaching notebook. The student teaching notebook requirements will be reviewed in the seminar. The notebook will be checked by the College Supervisor and must be kept up to date and organized. This notebook will also provide evidence of the student teachers’ professional development process and will be reviewed during the final evaluation for grading purposes. Candidates will also be required to complete an edTPA portfolio which is required by the state for licensure. This is a performance-based assessment used to measure novice teachers’ readiness to teach elementary literacy. At the end of student teaching the candidate will be evaluated by the cooperating teacher and the supervising teacher using the IHE/LEA evaluation instrument with the state standards. Student Teaching Seminar is offered every semester along with student teaching. Students must be admitted to student teaching by the Department of Education and have completed ED 400, ED 402, ED 404, ED 405, ED406, ED 407, ED 408, ED 409 and ED 410 with at least a “C-.”
