BU424 Govt Economics and Policy Analysis
Pre-requisites: EC 202
Governments seek to improve society with expenditures financed through taxation. This course in classic public finance introduces students to traditional cost-benefit analysis used to design government budgets for maximizing social welfare. Political-economic themes include regulation of public utilities, the environment, and workplace safety; anti-poverty programs, education finance, public-choice voting theory, Social Security and health care entitlements, optimum taxation, tax incidence, government debt finance, inter-governmental grants, transportation infrastructure, and local development incentives.
