EN260 Found of Language: Intro to Linguistics

We all speak at least one language, but how often have we considered how language actually works? How we learn it? How we produce and comprehend it? This course will introduce you to the fundamentals of human language. We will learn the tools necessary to describe and think about all languages: pragmatics, semantics, syntax, morphology, and phonology. And in conjunction, we will also review and discover the logic behind grammar. This course will give students the ability to think about language analytically, to recognize and understand the systematic patterns of sound and structure which govern the languages of the world.
