Traditional Students and Abbey Distance Program

Traditional Students and the Abbey Distance Program

Students choosing to enroll in the traditional seated Belmont program have committed to a residential program of studies. While this can include some online courses, traditional students should not enroll in more than two online courses/semester (subject to availability), and first-year students cannot register for online courses at all. To go beyond this requires permission from the Registrar except for students majoring in Computer Science or Cybersecurity, as those programs are designed for online completion. In no case should a traditional student register for a fully online semester; to do otherwise requires explicit written permission from the Provost’s Office.

Because traditional students have committed to a residential program of studies, transferring to the Abbey Distance Program from the residential program of studies should be rare and based on special circumstances. Moreover, such transfers should be a lasting change in the student’s program of study; they will often require a change of major as the Abbey Distance Program has a limited selection of majors available. There will also be Financial Aid implications. For these reasons, students in their last two semesters of study prior to graduation may *not* transfer to the Abbey Distance Program.
