CJ300 Law Enforcement in the U.S.

Prerequisite: CJ 201 or permission of instructor This course introduces the student to the law enforcement profession in general, and to municipal policing in particular. Since most of the law enforcement activity in the U.S. occurs at the local level, emphasis is placed upon the history, recruiting, training, management, and theoretical applications of urban, suburban, and rural police organizations. Coursework includes study of police research, daily activities of police, constitutional law, ethics, unique problems faced by police families, and contemporary issues in law enforcement. Introduction to Criminal Justice is recommended as a prerequisite, but is not required. Offered yearly.
