HS362 Substance Abuse & Addictions II

Prerequisite: C or higher in HS361. This course is a continuation of HS361 and focuses on the prevention and treatment of substance abuse and addictions. Student will consider the 12 core functions of the counselor treating addictive disorders and providing relapse prevention: screening, intake, orientation, assessment, treatment planning, counseling, case management, crisis intervention, client education, report and record keeping, consultation with other professionals, and referral. Multiple pathways to recovery using evidence-based strategies are reviewed while students consider ethical and cultural issues involved in treatment and prevention.
