Minor in Medieval Studies

Overview

Students must complete 15 hours of courses from the following list with a grade of “C” or better. No more than 9 of the 15 hours may be taken within a single discipline. Within the minor, students are allowed to concentrate on either the Middle Ages or the Renaissance. However, at least one course must be taken in the other period. For example, if a student wants to concentrate on the medieval period and wishes to take two semesters of Latin at the 200-level or higher and then has three courses left to take for the minor, at least one of those three must be a course that engages with the Renaissance. The same applies vice versa. It is the student’s responsibility to see that all degree requirements for graduation are fulfilled.

N.B. In order for a course to count, that course must be taught by a specialist in the discipline. For example, if a student wishes to count a course on Shakespeare, that course should be taught by someone trained in Renaissance literature. If a student is in doubt about a course, they should reach out to the coordinator of the minor.
