HS350 Applied Empirical Reasoning

Prerequisite: C- or higher in MA135 This course introduces students to quantitative tools used to describe and interpret data used in human service practice, research, program evaluation, and policy formation. The course prepares students to understand, interpret, and conduct the statistical analyses necessary for the evaluation of effective practice. Basic statistical procedures used in evidence-based practice and program evaluation will be covered including descriptive statistics, hypothesis testing, understanding tests of significance, and univariate and bivariate inferential statistics. Students will engage with these constructs by use of laboratory exercises that include data analysis using computer software. The course will prepare students to critically examine research articles and utilize evidence-based practice reports.
