HS383 Field Placement in Social Services I
Prerequisites: C or higher in
HS110 HS210,
HS220,
HS300, and
HS330; Junior or Senior status, or permission from Department Chair. This course will provide students with a supervised, field-based experience, designed to build on the skills and concepts learned in the coursework. Students will work in a social service agency under the supervision of agency staff and College faculty. Work will be guided and evaluated by both the BAC faculty supervisor and the field placement supervisor. This is a 135-hour on-site course (approximately 9 hours weekly) and is only offered as a 16-week course. While in the placement, students participate in a weekly seminar with Belmont Abbey faculty. A grade of B or higher must be obtained in this course. Students taking this course may be required to take and pass a background check by the agency. Students are responsible for paying the background check fees. Background check procedures vary by agency, so students will wait until they have been accepted at a placement to complete the background check process. Students concerned about passing a background check should contact their instructor to discuss options. (3 credits)
