EN409 Flannery O'Connor

Prerequisites: EN 211, EN 212 A study of O'Connor's writing, with primary attention to her fiction from her MFA thesis through her final stories. We will attend to O'Connor's emphasis on craftsmanship and on the relationship of her Catholic faith to her artistic vocation as expressed in her nonfiction (letters and essays). Other writers whom O'Connor admired or responded to may be briefly incorporated into the course, demonstrating her critical engagement with both a larger literary tradition and her own cultural moment.
