HI315 The Civil War & Reconstruction

This course examines the central events of 19th century U.S. History, the Civil War and Reconstruction. Students will explore the growing sectionalism during the late antebellum period and the social, political, and economic stresses that fractured the Union. It will examine the establishment of the Confederate States of America, the Civil War conflicts on the battlefield, at the home front, and in politics, and seek to understand the attempts by both Northern and Southern Americans to bind the nation's wounds during Reconstruction. Students will study the time-period stretching from the Compromise of 1850 through the Presidential election of 1876.
