HI341 Church History
This course explores the history of the Catholic Church from the early Christian community of Jerusalem up through Vatican Council II. A particular emphasis will be given to the Church’s self understanding of its role in the world as presented through documents representative of the early Church (Acts of the Apostles, Eusebius, Augustine, et al.), the Middle Ages (Bede, Urban II, the decretalists, the scholastics, et al.), the Reformation (G. Savonarola, M. Luther, T. More, et al.), and the modern era (Syllabus of Errors, Lumen gentium, Gaudium et spes, et al.). Offered as needed
